Mountaineering (Everest, K2 and Kangchenjunga) [opinion]

[I am not a climber, never climbed a mountain, and was not any good at climbing a rope in gym class — and certainly do not have thousands of dollars to waste on climbing a stupid rock — this is just idle pondering on my part.]

Everest is called the tallest mountain in the world, however, Kangchenjunga was once thought to be higher (now said to be the third highest). Everest seems the most climbed of the two. I assume because being the tallest, it gives the most bragging rights.

Or perhaps Everest is easier to summit, than Kangchenjunga, or K2. With a much lower percentage of deaths, than the latter. (and just to clarify; I am not implying that either is easy)

— if climbers are really seeking bragging rights, should they climb the hardest, rather than simply the tallest (?) — and I am aware that some have climbed all three mentioned, and others (which is amazingly impressive)

— as an analogy; if one were to compare them to buildings; is it more impressive to take an elevator to the two hundredth floor, or climb one hundred eighty flights of stairs, to the rooftops (?)

— but one has to wonder how anyone could be too impressed with an occasional tourist climbing mountains that the locals (Sherpas, porters, …) climb all the time
