Strong criticism of a K-pop company

Recently, I ran across another group (not saying who) which I liked and started looking at a few of the vlog videos, of some of the members. --- Which I often do. Doing so I watched one in which a member of the group went on a vacation, alone (not just a day out). Which at first I though, okay people do that. Then it hit me. Wait What!? Traveling alone can be dangerous enough for us nobodies, but this was a singer who's group has over two million subscribers on YouTube, and her Instagram account has thousands of followers. And the company has the video, where she specifically points out that she was alone, and likes to do that, posted on the official group channel. WTF!? --- Seriously WTF!? Some might say, "Oh there would be someone with her, a cameraman, or ...." However, it seemed obvious that she was recording the vlog on her phone. Okay, I have seen what I think are some glaring mistakes made by other Korean entertainment companies, but those were mostly mismanagment ...

Dreamcatcher - our opinion

October 26, 2024 Our opinion and basic descriptions of some of Dreamcatcher's videos. For those not familiar with their music. Is this article bias? Yes. Is Dreamcatcher my favorite K-pop group? Yes! We are not experts on the group (or any other music), and have not watched or listened to everything this group has done. In fact, only discovering their music a few days ago. (and K-pop only a few weeks ago — yes, we basically live in a cave 😉) ___ Summary : Well …. Regardless of which video you watch first, your initial impression will probably be wrong. (if you do not like the first song, try another --- seriously, this group does many different things) Rather than make you scroll down though our lame attempt to write reviews of the group and various music videos, we decided to put the link to the YouTube playlist, featuring most of the Dreamcatcher videos mentioned in this article (plus a few extras not reviewed), which may give some idea of the groups talent and versatility. (you...

K-Pop Industry Safety Standards?

Image
There obviously is none, or if there is, some of the entertainment companies seem to be ignoring them. Disclaimer : Am no expert, and know nothing about safety regulations. – I am surprised that more people are not seriously injured (or killed) due to the sheer stupidity of some of the people working for the K-Pop companies. Who at times seem to be ignoring standard safety procedures, whether required by any legal requirements or not, some things are just common sense. Which obviously many working for and running some of the companies seriously seem to lack. To start, here is a nice capture of a bragging caption notice of how they were following supposed safety measures, during the making of the ITZY - Girls Will Be Girls music video. --- The singer is climbing into a moving vehicle.   – example 1: Lightbox hanging from crane, outdoors, over member of ITZY, on top of vehicle, during the making of the same Girls Will Be Girls music video. Just looking at th...

K-Pop — our opinion

updated: April 28, 2026 I have to hand it to the people in the K-pop groups. To put up with the crappy hours, low pay, criticism and general bullshit they obviously have to put up with. Man, they must really enjoy what they are doing. I think most people, myself included would probably say, “F*** THIS!” — I for one am glad they do what they do, since it is currently my favorite genre. Disclaimer : We do not know, nor have we met any of the singers. We have never met any of the persons associated with, or running any of the entertainment companies (in Korea or the US). This is only our opinions from observing K-pop, and the related industry, for just over one year. From our observation, many of the singers seem like they would be okay people, if one were to know them, and as in the real world some probably would not be. However, it seems obvious that many of the people running the companies are probably not. It seems an industry (like most) in which the people running the companies can ...

Industry Plants

How might one spot an artist who is an industry plant ? Well, here may be a few things that seem suspicious? This is by no means definitive, or scientifically accurate, just our opinion; and opinions about music, like any other artform is subjective. None of these being a positive indicator, but…. We are not suggesting who is or is not, simply based on these. [but like many things, the more boxes being checked….] 🔲 Nepo Baby --  Rich kid / rich parents, close friends or relatives inside (or accociated with) the record / entertainment industry 🔲 Instant success 🔲 Going viral with first song posted to social media 🔲 Awards, awards, ... 🔲 Excessive number of followers / subscribers within a short period (even before actually being famous or popular) 🔲 Excessive amounts of airplay on commercial broadcast radio (AM / FM) — Do you hear their songs multiple times throughout the day, everyday, week after week, … after month, … years (?!)  Now for a bit of reality check: It takes...

'Arsenic In My Sugar' (MP3)

Update: Currently this file is no longer available. (we may eventually repost this to YouTube ???) 'Arsenic In My Sugar' Rock 3:26 mp3 file 3.2MB lyrics: " Got arsenic in my sugar, ice water in my veins. I'm in love with what's her name, and I think that I must be insane. And I think I must be insane. Some people call me silly. Some people think I'm deranged. I'm just a dumb hillbilly, and admit that I'm often strange. I'm in love with what's her name. I'm in love with what's her name. And I think I must be insane. And I think I must be insane. Some people call me silly. Some people think I'm deranged. I'm just a dumb hillbilly, and admit that I'm often strange. I need another cup of tea, …. And I think I must be insane. And I think I must be insane. ( adlibed to finish ) " [  lest anyone take offense, both my parents were from central West Virginia, and I have lived in south central Kentucky for over twenty years :) ]
